More on Goals

Once you've chosen a goal for yourself, how in the world do you get there?

You might need to do some research to find out what steps are required. Thank God for Google! You can find out almost anything you need to know on the Internet. If your goal requires some type of degree or certification, you can research schools on the 'Net and find out the admission requirements and costs involved.

A trip to your local library or bookstore might be useful, too. Find and subscribe to trade magazines in whatever subject or industry you're interested in.

You can also research the lives of people who have done the thing that you want to do. Find out how musicians, actors, or politicians started out. What education did they have? Did they have mentors, or sponsors, or did they go it alone? Sometimes you can even contact famous people and ask then questions. I did this with author Janet Evanovich. She started out writing little romance books like me, and I wanted to find out how she made the jump into bestselling mysteries. She was kind enough to reply.

At this point you might get a little overwhelmed by how much work you're going to have to do, or how far you have to travel to reach your goal. Don't let that stop you. Even if it takes ten or twenty years--those ten or twenty years will pass anyway. Might as well have what you want once they're gone.

And here's the secret: It's not all drudgery and sweat while you're working toward your goal, because you're marking your progress and celebrating each completed step along the way.

More about this tomorrow.

Dreamily,
Kara
