Houseguests

My in-laws, Sally and Walt, are visiting this week from California. Houseguests are a great excuse for a number of things, such as:
1. cleaning. The house hasn't been this clean in months.
2. buying groceries. OMG, we actually have food in the house, more than emergency provisions.
3. not working. We have to be entertaining, right?
4. going out to eat. A visit from Sally means at least one trip to Gloria's, our favorite Salvadoran restaurant.
5. going to museums and stuff. Ever notice how you never visit the cool stuff in your own city until someone comes to visit?
All in all, having houseguests is a great thing. But it's probably good they only come once a year, or I would never get any work done and I'd be big as a house.

I made a nice chicken broth and then a bean soup, and we had that and sandwiches for dinner (while Rob went to his bridge class). We sat out on the front porch to catch a breeze--it's actually warm here today, over 80. Then we watched the movie Mr. Roberts. If anybody needs to be convinced that great, complex characters are the key to a fabulous story, they should watch this movie. It's a great one.

I did some revision on my new book today--trying to figure out what it's about. I'm also going through a writing book called Plot and Structure (can't remember the author) which so far I think I'm really liking. Good explanation of three-act structure.

Thanks for visiting,
Kara

Pages written: 0 unless you count writing exercises
Where did I walk: Nowhere, pathetic 2887 steps
Treasures found: Can't find treasure if you don't leave the house!
Affirmation: I am a relaxed and competent hostess. (Hey, this one might actually be working. I AM relaxed. Not sure about competent, but my houseguests have so far survived.
