I'm even more finished than yesterday

Today I did a read-through of the first draft. I actually got all the way through it in one day, which is a pretty good sign. This is the book I hated, hated, hated while I was writing it, but after reading it I decided it wasn't the worst book I've ever written. (This is all part of my process).

Anyway, we had to go to the post office AGAIN because the priority mail that I very carefully took to the post office and handed to a retail postal worker was returned to me--with a sticker that said I needed to personally hand it to a retail postal employee. Apparently the person I originally gave it to didn't stamp it right or something. At least I didn't have to pay extra postage.

After the post office, Rob and I walked to Yah Mon Jamaican Jerk Chicken, which is a tiny restaurant we've been hearing about for a while. The entire restaurant is in a space about as big as my bedroom, including the kitchen. There's no sit down--walk up and carry out only.

We took it home and had a nice picnic on the deck so I could watch birds while I ate. The chicken itself was pretty good (though I hate eating meat off a bone). But I didn't think the beans and rice that went with it were very good--too dry. Rob had some cornbread muffins that were pretty tasty. The birds were numerous. I saw a downy woodpecker--not a new bird for me, but first time I've seen one in our yard. The birdbath was very popular today. I had six or seven birds in it at one time.

That was pretty much it, except for the reading and editing and polishing. I have some research questions that I'm waiting to have answered, and then Rob will read it. If Rob doesn't find anything hideous about it, I'll send it off and I might even make my deadline!

Thanks for visiting,
Kara

Emma led me to your blog and I am so glad I came over here. I left you a message in the HAR thread on eHQ about reading the series and I wanted to thank you for your post on RTB about hating your books. Thank you for reminding me that I can be...normal or not alone. '-)

Loving Ethan when I can stop life long enough to indulge. My friend tried to walk out of here today with him and almost got tackled.

oops, hit enter too soon after I filled in the word verification maybe because it's after 2 am.

Do you think I can remember what I wanted to say? No. I'll save it for later.

Take care, Kara!

Hi, Heather!
I am not very good at checking for comments at the HAR blog--there's no notification, so I have to keep checking.

I guess the "I hate my book" thing is more common than I thought. My husband, who is also a writer, doesn't understand, but most other writers I talk to have gone through it at least once.
