Doing my headless chicken imitation

The day before I go out of town, I always think I have everything under control. But today got completely away from me. (I'm heading to Virginia Beach with Rob, who is attending the EpiCon E-book conference.)

Started out with a breakfast at the Hilton with Rob's financial advisers. I ordered pancakes and it came with four (count 'em!) four slices of bacon. I ate it all because I was bored, and the waiter wouldn't take it away. Afterward, Rob dropped me off at the train station and it was 11:00 by the time I got home.

I had to get my new contest launched (check out www.karalennox.com for details--it's a fun little prize). This is a long process involving photography and updating webpages. I also wrote my March newsletter (which isn't out yet because I'm waiting on a couple of details). I sent a childbirth scene to Suzanne, my obstetric nurse/writer friend, for fact-checking. Then it was time to take my cat all the way to Garland after a detour to Richardson (long story) so my sister can cat-sit. Another couple of hours shot.

By now I'm panicking because I've hardly done anything to get ready for the trip. It's just four days, and I'm not planning to do anything except write and read and maybe bird watch. (I gave up the idea of metal detecting 'cause it's very cold in Virginia Beach this week.) Still ...bills to pay, bags to pack, files to download, MP3 player to fill up (yikes, haven't done that yet). Then I get the really bad news: Our flight leaves at 6:50 a.m. I guess we don't have to worry about rush-hour traffic on our way to the airport! Oh, well, I don't care. I'm done with my book (except for a few details) and that's the main thing.

Oh, saw a new bird today--Herring seagull. They are very common and I'm sure I've seen them before, but today I positively identified it and recorded the place and time, like a good birder. (I didn't realize seagulls wandered so far inland, but they do.)

I'm off to finish packing. I will try to blog from the road.

Thanks for visiting,
Kara
