Quick Trip to Austin

Sorry I didn't blog yesterday, but I spent the night in Austin and didn't have a computer handy. I gave a workshop to the Austin Romance Writers of America on Psychics and how to write about them accurately in a book. It was the first time I've done this workshop, and I did a bit of show-and-tell--I brought Tarot cards, a crystal ball, dowsing rods, pendulum, and several interesting books on various esoteric subjects. I also gave away free copies of my old Loveswept, WITCHY WOMAN, which features a psychic heorine.

I stayed last night at the home of one of the members. Her daughter is actually the president, and the three of us stayed up late drinking wine and talking. Then I got up very early and drove back to Dallas.

Barely had time to catch my breath before I had to get back in the car and drive out to Mesquite to speak to my sister's fourth-graders (she's a teacher) about being an author. It was a lot of fun--kids that age are so curious and so openly loving. Many of them came up and hugged me afterward. They were very good, too.

They listened politely and they asked lots of intelligent questions--mostly the exact same questions adults asked, and some that were new to me, like, "Do you ever get tired of writing?" and "Do you put your friends or your sister in your books?" (They wanted to know if their teacher was in any of my books!) They asked how I came up with titles, and what happened if I just couldn't think of a title? They asked how I planned out my stories.

Came home, caught my breath, then went to yoga. Afterward we did a nice, long guided meditation, but unfortunately I was so tired I fell asleep and slept through the whole thing.
Then Rob and I went to--wait for it--Norma's for dinner. Nor normally I like to go out to a nice restaurant for Valentine's Day. But we actually hadn't realized we would be together. I had yoga, he had fencing, and we were planning to celebrate on Friday instead. But then fencing got canceled. By then it was too late to make a reservation, so Norma's it was. Nothing like a bacon-and-egg sandwich and tater tots.
