Don't go it alone

"I not only use all the brains I have but all that I can borrow." --President Woodrow Wilson

President Wilson had it right. American culture tends to glorify the lone wolf, the maverick who goes out and does the impossible all on his own. But the truth is that most successful people have lots and lots of help. They seek out minds greater than their own and assemble their own private brain trust, to which they can go for help whenever a problem arises that can't be solved by one brain alone.

So don't be afraid to ask for help. Seek out people who have done what you want to do, and find out how they did it. Most people are flattered to be asked questions about themselves, their work or their accomplishments. Gather around you a cadre of supportive chums with whom you can brainstorm through challenges and celebrate successes.

Asking for help can be difficult if you've always been made to feel you should figure things out on your own. (That would be me!) But it gets easier with practice. Heck, you can practice on me!
